The Easiest Way To Prepare Your Home for the Market

Clean and Paint: A Two-Step Plan

There are a ton of blogs out there about the best way to stage and renovate your home for a quick sale. In fact, at Oak City Properties, we have written our fair share of them— from updating fixtures to replacing key items in the bathroom, there are a million different ways to get your home ready for the market.

However, if you are limited in time and don’t have the means (or energy) to enhance every room in your home, there are two simple things you can do to prepare your home for the market.

Step 1: Clean

Step 2: Paint

That’s it, you ask? Yes! A deep-clean of your home can enhance the mood and make your house desirable to potential buyers. A fresh coat of paint can do the same thing while also eliminating years of scuffs, smudges, and fingerprints. While we understand that sometimes more needs to be done to get the highest and best offer, if time is of the essence, focus on the basics.

Step 1: Clean

The first step to our “easiest way to sell your home” plan is to deep clean all the rooms in your home. When we say deep clean, we mean it to the “n-th” degree. Remove all of your personal items, clean every inch of the room, and put back only the essential pieces that make the home feel open and inviting. While cleaning, ask yourself a few questions:

  • What can be removed from the room to make it feel inviting and comfortable?
  • Are there items that can be removed to make the room more appealing to buyers?
  • Is there any area of the room that needs more of my attention when it comes to cleaning? (i.e.: smudge on the floor, dust bunnies in the corners, stain on the carpet)
  • How can I make this space pop and attract an offer that I can’t refuse?

Once you have cleaned and examined each room with those underlying questions in mind, move on to step two!

Step 2: Paint

A fresh coat of neutral paint can do wonders for any room of your home. While the color and cleanliness of your walls won’t make or break a potential offer, most home buyers like to enter a home that is neutralized and fresh. A fresh coat of paint is also one of the first things buyers will notice and will help to create a great first impression. A clean coat of paint can also remove years of home use and revamp a room without major renovations.

Easy as Pie

While cleaning and painting are rather simple and easy steps to increase the value of your home, they are also a great way to appeal to the broadest audience possible. A clean home and fresh coat of paint will help potential buyers envision themselves in your home, creating new memories. While these steps are easy as pie, they will take some time and energy on your part. Make sure to give yourself enough time to work your way thoroughly through each room.
